GEWA music was founded in 1925 by Georg Walther - GE/WA - in Adorf, Vogtland. Georg Walther and a small team of violin makers from the region concentrated on the construction and sale of instruments made by hand and, a short time later, the corresponding cases.
GEWA Strings is the oldest division of the company. Under the umbrella of GEWA music, GEWA Strings is an independent division that focuses entirely on development, manufacturing, sales and marketing, and customer service (B2B & B2C).
The majority of our Development and Product Managers are trained luthiers and master instrument makers. In keeping with the tradition of the Vogtland region, all concepts and ideas are developed at the company site in Adorf, produced in parts (GEWA - Made in Germany) or manufactured in our factory in Asia, in compliance with the highest standards (GEWA Responsibility) and production methods.
The production in our factory in Asia is one of the most modern worldwide. Various string instrument makers have been and continue to be trained and educated in Europe or in our workshops in Adorf/Vogtland. We pay attention to the best selection of materials, e.g. European tonewoods and varnishes. Furthermore, the instruments are made and finished according to the measurements of the "Mittenwalder-Massabelle". This results in a sound and precision that are held in the highest esteem, even in the lower price ranges or in instruments for beginners. The combination of the most modern, high-precision CNC machines, in conjunction with our knowledge of craftmanship, make this possible; the best prerequisites for the beginner or novice.
In addition to our production in Asia, we operate our violin making workshop at the company headquarters in Adorf, Vogtland. Here, trained violin makers dedicate themselves to the high art of handmade violins, cellos and basses. In addition to the instruments, we also manufacture our world-renowned cases in Adorf. For outstanding artists from all over the world, our cases are the first choice for the safe storage of their instruments.
Modern and timeless designs in combination with the latest materials, equipped with functional, partly patented features, make a GEWA case a safe companion for your instrument when travelling. And we pay particular attention to protecting our environment.
The highest quality, the most modern manufacturing processes and ensuring the transfer of knowledge across generations have been our tradition since 1925.
